Name: Akira Kagami
Title: Executive Officer & Deputy Managing Director Account Group Management Headquarters Dentsu Inc, Tokyo

Akira Kagami clearly has a different perspective from other creative people in Japan. Known to many as ‘the big guy from Dentsu,’ he may well be physically the tallest creative in Japan. Slightly smaller than the Eiffel Tower, he’s a landmark in a crowd. Many lost creatives seek him out and he will gently offer directions based on his unique viewpoint, which extends to the far future of advertising.
Since joining Dentsu as a copywriter in 1971, he has worked with clients in a wide range of fields, including soft drinks, food, electrical appliances, automobiles, insurance, and media.
Through all the work, he has picked up numerous prizes, including at Cannes, Clio, and One Show, as well as the Grand Prix for three times at ADFEST. He has served on the jury at Cannes, Clio, One Show, D&AD, and many other international awards, and has chaired the judging panel at ADFEST.
Many will already know Kagami-san as a regular presenter of the ‘Asian Diversity‘ seminar presented annually by Dentsu at the Cannes Festival. He has also been introducing Japanese creativity as a speaker at various places around the world.
In his spare time, he is an acclaimed author and translator of science-fiction books.
