After studying architecture in Italy Franco began his career in advertising in Australia. Working in three different agencies he grew from illustrator to art director to creative director.
In 1970, he left Australia and after a long overland journey trough the Asian continent returned to Europe and settled in London as Creative Group Head in Button Design Studio and Burnnings.
Always restless, after joining McCann Erickson in Milan in 1972, he moved to New York in 1979 as one of the founding members of the creative international team especially created to develop Coca-Cola campaigns for global release as well as trouble shooting projects at worldwide level.
Returned to Milan in 1982 and was elected, together with Milka Pogliani, Executive Creative Director Vice President of the three Italian McCann offices driving the agency’s creative reputation amongst the top in the worldwide network.
In 1990 he was named Senior Vice President of McCann Worldwide and European Creative Director in charge of creative resources. In 1995 he was elected President of the Italian Art Directors Club, responsibility that he held for the following four years.
In 1996 he joined Leo Burnett as Chief Creative Officer where he drove the agency’s reputation amongst the top creative Italian agencies. In 2001 he was named Group Vice Chairman.
He and his team have gained recognitions from most national and international creative competitions: Australian Creative Circle the international Venice Film Festival, Cannes, Clio, the Italian and European Art Directors Club, the One Show of New York, Euro Best, Chicago Film Festival.
Franco has been Chairman and member of some of the most important international advertising competitions. Today he is President of the Art Directors Club of Europe and seats on the Board of Directors of Pubblicità Progresso Foundation, a unique non-for profit organization involved in public service communication. He teaches at Milan Politecnico and at IULM University of Communication Sciences.
