During a brief flirt with architecture, Brett Mitchell discovered his love of synthesizers which lead him to become one of the pioneers of Australian electronic music act Boxcar, which has produced 3 albums, scored 3 x Top 10’s in the US Dance Charts and toured with his hero’s of the time - Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys and among many other great musical acts.Brett founded an indie record label called Thunk Recordings, which was one of Australia’s most respected electronic music labels releasing products on an international scale. In and around this period Brett composed numerous TVC tunes, developed a sensational score for the Australian Ballet, wrote a lot of synthesizer and software reviews on publications such as Audio Technology and Sound on Sound, and completed remixes for AC/DC, Baz Luhrman and Blur to name a few great artist and bands.
Upon a chance meeting and seeing the output of Thunk Recordings work, Brett was offered a position to oversee several large online music projects for NYC developer OVEN Digital.
Brett decamped to the East Village and over the next few years developed Hip-Hop portal, Hookt.com and Digital Club Network dcn.com websites - both of which won OneShow awards, with Hookt bagging a further Cannes Lion and Nettie.
Brett then moved to Spin Communications where he took up the EP role for around four years. He oversaw all planning and campaign implementation for the Sydney office clients including Activision, Australian Fashion Week, Coca-Cola, Disney, Festival Mushroom, Lee Jeans, Microsoft Xbox (AU, NZ & US), Streets and Tropfest.
More award winning work followed with Lee Jeans picking up Cannes Lion, ADMA and AIMIA awards and work developed for the international Xbox market also picking up another AIMIA.
Following freelance stints providing production and strategy for Tequila and Soap across a range of clients including AAPT, Absolute, ARIA, Goodman Fielder, Mitsubishi, and Pacific Brands, Brett joined Moon Group in the capacity of Business Director. At Moon, Brett developed online strategy for the
ABC, Bresic Whitney, LG, Sci-Fi Channel, The Red Cross, and Sunglass Hut whose ‘Look Famous’ campaign picked up ‘Best Integration with an Offline campaign’ in the 2008 AIMIA Awards.
Brett joined Droga5 as Digital Director in Oct 2009, in that time he has developed the entire Victoria Bitter online presence as well as produced the multi-award winning Right Music Wrongs campaign for Virgin Mobile and the 4320LA campaign for V Australia.
