Name: Khai Meng Tam
Title: Co-Chairman, Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy and Mather, Asia Pacific, Singapore
Khai Meng Tham has more than 20 years experience in advertising working in London, New York and across Asia. Today, he is one of the most awarded creatives in the world.
In 2000 Khai joined Ogilvy & Mather, in 2005 he was elected to the Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Board.
Under Khai’s leadership the network continues to rise through the regional and global creative rankings - according to Campaign Brief Asia, the only regional publication dedicated to profiling Asia’s creative product, Khai has been named the number one creative director for five consecutive years. And his network has been crowned ‘Creative Network of the Year’ for the same period.
2006 saw the industry award Ogilvy with the title of ‘Network of the Year’, the top prize at Media magazine’s ‘Agency of the Year’ competition. This win was supported by the network’s concurrent wins as ‘Creative Agency of the Year’ and ‘One-to-One Agency of the Year’. Media magazine’s ‘Agency of the Year’ awards have come to represent an invaluable stamp of excellence within the communications industry in Asia.
According to the Gunn Report, Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide is the 6th most creative network in the world. Under Khai’s creative leadership, Ogilvy Asia Pacific contributed a staggering 40 per cent to O&M Worldwide’s total score.
In 2005, in recognition for his creative innovation to drive the Ogilvy Asia Pacific network to its present leadership position, Khai was awarded Media magazine’s hotly contended ‘Regional Head of the Year’ accolade. This is the first time a creative person has been honoured with this award.
In the same year, Khai made history by becoming the first Asian to chair the Clio’s executive jury board in the US; he also served as the keynote speaker in Miami at the Clio Awards.
New York based Advertising Age, a leading global industry commentator, named Khai ‘one of the most influential people in the communications business.
As deputy chairman of the Design Singapore Council and chairman of its Design Industry Panel, he is spearheading the Design Singapore initiative working with the Ministry of Information, Communication and Arts, placing Singapore well on its way to becoming an Asian hub for the creative industry.
Khai holds a BA (1st Class) from Central St. Martin’s, UK, and an MA (summa cum laude) in film and history of art from the Royal College of Art, UK.
