Valencia 2007

The first jury session was in Valencia, Spain, in November 2007. There were 166 nominees from 4 regional festivals ADFEST, FIAP, Golden Drum and ADC*E competing for 37 trophies and one Grand CUP.

Intercontinental Advertising Cup festival was held from the 22nd-24th of November 2007 in Palace of Arts and Sciences, in Valencia, Spain. Lectures and conversations during the three days were fresh, passionate and inspiring, underlining relevance and strength of THE CUP's core idea. Participants could listen to:

  • the regional perspective on 'Genius Loci'- the spirit of a local place', with Vinit Suraphongchai, Adfest, Daniel Marcet, FIAP, Jure Apih, Golden Drum and Johannes Newrkla, ADC*E
  • Rafa Anton's lecture on the quality of the nominated work
  • the marketer's conversation on 'great ideas start local'  - with Rui Porto (Havaianas), Julia Goldin (Coca Cola), Hanns-Peter Cohn and Carlos Carsten (Vitra), Ami Hasan and Toni Segarra (Ikea).
  • the interview chain on 'the value of local culture within a global world' with Toni Segarra, El Bulli's Ferran Adria, Tate Modern's Vincente Todoli, architect Clive Wilkinson and the producer of the bossa nova AndrĂ© Midani.
  • the jury conversation on 'local first - a growing global wisdom'  with Akira Kagami, Ami Hasan, Toni Segarra, Rafa Anton and Johannes Newrkla and John Hegarty's thoughts about The Cup on video.

The media-neutral composition of the categories and the inclusion of Ad Making categories was well received by professionals and participants.

THE CUP awards applauded jury work and strong engagement in giving birth to The Cup and its distinct basic theme Genius Loci.

The first Cup winners were made public on November 24th in the Grand Gala Ceremony at Santiago Calatrava's Palace of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain.
